PUBG Taego Map Tactics: Drops, Loot & Secret Rooms

pubg taego map

The PUBG Taego map is the 8×8 km Korean-themed battleground that introduced the Comeback BR system, self-AED revives, and the K2 assault rifle. Whether you are chasing a chicken dinner solo or coordinating a full squad rotation, knowing the right drops, vehicle spawns and secret room locations turns Taego from a chaotic sprint into a winnable game.

Here’s everything you need to play Taego like it’s your home map.

Taego Map Overview

Taego is an 8×8 km map set in 1980s South Korea, mixing dense urban centres, rice paddies, mountainous terrain and a massive central lake. It supports 100 players and sits alongside Erangel and Miramar in the large-map rotation on PC.

Key facts to know before you land:

  • Size: 8×8 km (large map)
  • Setting: Rural and urban 1980s Korea
  • Signature feature: Comeback BR — eliminated players get one chance to return
  • Map-exclusive weapon: K2 assault rifle (5.56mm)
  • Map-exclusive vehicle: Pony Coupe
  • Self-revive item: Self-AED (revive yourself when knocked, solo included)

If you are new to the game before dropping in, our pubg beginner guide will get you up to speed on the basics first.

Comeback BR: How the Second Chance Works

Comeback BR is Taego’s headline mechanic and it changes how you play the first two circles.

When you die during Phase 1, you are automatically sent to the Comeback BR arena along with every other eliminated player. Survive the arena and you drop back into the main match with a full inventory kit.

What to remember:

  • Only deaths during the first phase qualify
  • You return with a basic loadout — expect to re-loot immediately
  • Squadmates who win Comeback drop back at a random location, not on your position
  • Do not throw fights early assuming you’ll get a comeback — the arena is a coin flip

This mechanic makes early aggression less punishing, which is why hot drops on Taego are so popular.

Best Hot Drops on Taego

These are the highest-loot, highest-action landing spots. Expect fights.

LocationLoot TierPopulationBest For
HosanSVery HighSquads wanting fast fights + kits
PalaceSHighFull AR + armour loot inside minutes
SunggokAHighUrban CQC, central rotations
Songam RuinsAMediumLoot without third-parties
Go SanAMediumVehicles + safe rotation west
SindorangBLowSolo players who want peace

Hosan

Hosan is the biggest urban centre on Taego and a magnet for hot droppers. Loot density is excellent across the industrial buildings and apartments, but you will need to clear at least two other squads to hold it.

Palace

Palace sits in the north and offers guaranteed high-tier loot in a tight footprint. Great for a coordinated squad — awful for solos who land late.

Songam Ruins

Ruins gives you strong loot with fewer third-parties than Hosan or Palace. It’s our pick for squads who want gear without a war.

Secret Room Locations on Taego

Taego has secret rooms hidden inside random buildings across the map. These rooms require a Secret Key (a rare drop from world loot) and reward you with high-tier gear including level 3 armour, ARs and healing.

Confirmed secret room areas include:

  • Hosan (multiple buildings)
  • Palace
  • Sunggok
  • Ho San Elementary School
  • Shipyard
  • Gosan

The room is randomised each match, so a key that opened a door in Hosan last game may point you to Palace this game. Always look at the key icon in your inventory — it hints at the region.

Taego-Exclusive Weapons and Vehicles

The K2 Assault Rifle

The K2 is a 5.56mm AR exclusive to Taego (and Deston). Key specs:

  • Fire modes: Single, Burst, Auto
  • Magazine: 20 rounds base, 30 extended
  • Attachments: Muzzle, Grip, Mag, Sight, Stock
  • Role: Reliable mid-range AR, sits between M416 and SCAR-L in feel

It is not a top-tier weapon, but it’s plentiful on Taego and a strong pick-up when M416s are scarce. Compare it against the meta picks in our pubg best weapons and attachments breakdown.

Pony Coupe

The Pony Coupe is Taego’s map-exclusive vehicle — a 4-seat sedan that handles well on paved roads but struggles off-road. Faster than the UAZ on tarmac, slower than the Coupe RB on dirt.

Best Loot Routes for Squads

If you want gear without dying in the first two minutes, run one of these rotations.

Northern Loot Route

Drop Songam Ruins → Palace outskirts → vehicle → rotate to circle. Expect medium contact, excellent loot, and easy vehicle access.

Southern Loot Route

Drop Gosan → Go San Ville → Shipyard. Great mid-tier loot, water rotations available, and the Pony Coupe spawns frequently along this corridor.

Central Fast-Rotate

Drop Sunggok → rotate through Sindorang. This is the pick when you expect a central circle — you’ll be positioned before other squads finish looting the edges.

Self-AED: Taego’s Solo Lifeline

The Self-AED is a rare world-loot item that lets you revive yourself from a knocked state — even in solos. It takes time to use and makes noise, so pop it in cover.

  • Rare spawn, world loot only
  • Works in all modes including solos
  • Takes ~10 seconds to activate
  • Single use per pickup

Finding one changes your risk calculus completely. Play a little more aggressively when you have one banked.

Terrain and Zone Rotation Tips

Taego’s terrain is a mix of open rice paddies, forested mountains and dense urban blocks. A few rules that will keep you alive:

  • Avoid the paddies in late circles — no cover, easy kills for anyone on high ground
  • The central lake is a trap — swimming leaves you exposed for 20+ seconds
  • Ridge rotations beat road rotations on Taego more than any other 8×8 map
  • Blue zone damage ramps aggressively after phase 4 — don’t get caught in a slow vehicle

The Bottom Line

Taego rewards squads who commit — hot drop, use Comeback BR as a safety net, hunt secret keys, and rotate on ridges. It is one of the most feature-rich maps in PUBG, and the Self-AED alone makes it worth learning inside out.
