Karambit Doppler CS2: Phases, Prices & Patterns

Karambit Doppler CS2

The Karambit Doppler is the knife most players picture when they think “dream inventory.” It is a curved, claw-shaped blade painted with a swirling galaxy of color, and no two look exactly the same. In this guide, we break down every Karambit Doppler phase, what makes each one special, and how to tell a Phase 2 from a Phase 4 before you spend four figures on it.

What Is the Karambit Doppler?

The Doppler finish was added to the game with the Chroma case lineup, and it drops from the chroma case, the chroma 2 case and the chroma 3 case as a rare special item.

The finish uses a candy-paint style over a chrome base. Because the pattern index is random, the game splits every Doppler into four standard phases plus three ultra-rare special finishes: Ruby, Sapphire and Black Pearl.

Only the karambit and other original knife shapes (Bayonet, Flip, Gut, M9, Huntsman) can roll the classic Doppler pattern. Newer knives use the Gamma Doppler instead, which is a completely different finish.

Key facts at a glance:

  • Rarity: Covert (★)
  • Source cases: Chroma, Chroma 2, Chroma 3
  • Finish type: Doppler (candy paint over chrome)
  • Possible phases: 1, 2, 3, 4, Ruby, Sapphire, Black Pearl
  • StatTrak available: Yes

The Four Standard Doppler Phases

Each phase has a signature color palette. Knowing them cold is the difference between buying what you want and buying what someone wants to sell you.

PhaseDominant ColorsSecondary TonesRough Rarity
Phase 1Deep black, hot pink, magentaTeal flashesCommon
Phase 2Black, pink, small green patchesLight purpleCommon
Phase 3Pink, purple, green (bigger green area)Black streaksLess common
Phase 4Pink, blue, blackGreen rarely, smallLess common

Phase 3 and Phase 4 usually sell for a small premium over Phases 1 and 2 because their color balance is cleaner and the green on Phase 3 or the blue on Phase 4 is harder to roll in a “full coverage” layout.

How to Tell the Phases Apart

The quickest way to read a Doppler:

  • Look at the base of the blade near the handle. Phase 1 and 2 are heavy on pink and black. Phase 3 shows noticeable green. Phase 4 shows noticeable blue.
  • Check both sides. Doppler patterns are not symmetrical, and sellers love to photograph the “good side.” Always ask for an inspect link.
  • Match against a reference gallery. Our full breakdown of all doppler phases shows side-by-side comparisons for every knife.

Do not trust the Steam Market listing name alone. Valve labels the item with the phase in brackets, but third-party listings sometimes list “Phase 3” when the knife is clearly a Phase 2 with a lucky green streak.

The Three Rare Finishes: Ruby, Sapphire, Black Pearl

These are the holy grail rolls. Instead of a mixed candy pattern, the chrome is painted a single dominant color.

Ruby

A full, deep red finish across the entire blade. Ruby is the rarest paint on the Karambit in most tracked data pools, often priced several times higher than a standard phase.

Sapphire

A full, saturated blue. Sapphire is almost as rare as Ruby and arguably the most visually clean of the three. The surface reads as one glowing color under most in-game lighting.

Black Pearl

A deep, oily black with iridescent flecks of blue, purple and green that shift as the blade turns. Black Pearls are “stronger” or “weaker” depending on how much color the pattern pulls, and strong Black Pearls (sometimes called “fire and ice” patterns) carry a serious premium over flat ones.

All three rare finishes are only possible on original knife shapes. You cannot pull a Ruby, Sapphire or Black Pearl on a Shadow Dagger, Butterfly, Falchion or any knife added after the Chroma 3 case.

Price Overview

Prices move constantly, so treat the ranges below as a snapshot of where the market has been sitting rather than today’s exact ticket.

VariantTypical Price Band (USD)
Phase 1 (Factory New)~$1,050 – $1,300
Phase 2 (Factory New)~$1,050 – $1,300
Phase 3 (Factory New)~$1,100 – $1,400
Phase 4 (Factory New)~$1,100 – $1,400
Sapphire (Factory New)$8,000+
Ruby (Factory New)$8,000+
Black Pearl (Factory New)$3,500+ (strong patterns much higher)

StatTrak versions add a noticeable premium, especially on Phase 3, Phase 4 and the three rare finishes. For live tracking of the full karambit lineup, including Doppler phase splits, use a dedicated price page rather than Steam’s listing count.

Wear and Floats

The Doppler finish is capped between 0.00 and 0.08 float, so it only exists in two wear tiers:

  • Factory New (0.00 – 0.07)
  • Minimal Wear (0.07 – 0.08)

Because the max float is so low, scratches and wear patterns are minimal even on Minimal Wear examples. The paint is thick enough that most of the visible “wear” on an MW Doppler shows up on the ring and the spine rather than on the painted face.

Low float matters less than you think on this knife. A 0.02 Factory New and a 0.06 Factory New look identical in-game. Spend the budget on pattern instead.

Patterns Within Phases

Within each phase, specific pattern indices produce cleaner color coverage. These are tracked by trader communities and can lift the price of an otherwise standard knife.

Known pattern features to watch for:

  • Phase 2 “max purple” rolls that keep almost all the black off the main face
  • Phase 4 “full blue” rolls that read almost like a dim Sapphire
  • Black Pearl strong patterns where the iridescent flecks cover more than half the blade
  • Ruby and Sapphire tip-up rolls where the single color reaches the point of the blade

Which Phase Should You Buy?

The honest answer is: whichever you want to pull out every round for the next three years.

Quick guidance for common goals:

  • Best looking under default lighting: Phase 4 or a strong Phase 3
  • Best match with pink or red gloves: Phase 1 or Phase 2
  • Best match with blue or teal gloves: Phase 4 or Sapphire
  • Pure flex item: Ruby, Sapphire or a strong Black Pearl
  • Best value entry point: Phase 1 or Phase 2 Factory New

How to Avoid Getting Scammed

Covert knives are the number one target for inventory scammers. Before you commit:

  • Open an inspect link in-game, not just on the Market page. The in-game inspect is the only view that cannot be faked.
  • Rotate the knife fully. Check both sides of the blade, the ring and the spine.
  • Verify the phase label matches the paint. Many “Phase 3” listings are mislabeled Phase 2.
  • Check the float value and pattern index against the seller’s claim.
  • Avoid off-Steam trades with strangers. If you are using a third-party market, use one with escrow and buyer protection.

Doppler vs Gamma Doppler

New players often confuse the two. They are completely different finishes.

The Bottom Line

The Karambit Doppler is still one of the most desirable knives in CS2 because it combines the most iconic blade shape in the game with a finish that rewards close inspection. Phases 1 and 2 are the accessible tier, Phase 3 and Phase 4 are the cleaner-looking standards, and Ruby, Sapphire and Black Pearl are the trophy rolls.

If you take one thing away: pattern beats float on this knife every time. A well-rolled Phase 4 or strong Black Pearl at a slightly higher float will out-flex a bad-pattern Factory New of the same phase, every single round of the match.
